The Maryland section of the Great Allegheny Passage consist of 21 miles of scenic beauty where you can pass through tunnels and over bridges to  get to the most spectacular vistas along the Passage. Packages can be tailored to your needs and may include lodging, dining, shuttling Scenic Steam Engine train rides and much more. This section is the only place to ride with rail as part of the right of way is shared with the Western Maryland Scenic Railroad. The Railroad also provides shuttle service for you and your bike between Cumberland and Frostburg.

Start your trip with an overnight stay and enjoy our Friday After Five outdoor music, dining and activities on the Downtown Cumberland Mall. Depart Saturday load your bike and take a ride on the Western Maryland Scenic Railroad from Cumberland to Frostburg. Once in Frostburg depart and enjoy a leisurely 15 mile down hill ride back to Cumberland. Sunday take a shuttle to Frostburg for a 12 mile round trip to see the Big Savage Tunnel. Finish with a nice lunch in town and head back home.

Scenic Railroad Great Allegheny Passage Shuttle Service
The Western Maryland Scenic Railroad provides a shuttle service for trail users between Cumberland and Frostburg. The service is available Thursday thru Sunday leaving Cumberland at 11:30 am. Enjoy the train ride up the hill to Frostburg and coast back down 16 miles. Special rates are available for a limited time on Thursday and Sunday, you and your bike can take the train shuttle for just $25. Contact the Western Maryland Scenic Railroad for details.

Scenic Railroad Great Allegheny Passage Group Special
Purchase a 10 ticket packet for use on the Scenic Railroad “Shuttle Service” between Cumberland and Frostburg and pay only $150. You and your bike can make the trip for this limited time deal. Tickets can be used by groups or individuals wishing to use the service multiple times. Reservations must be placed in advance. Not valid for weekends in October.

This 70 mile bike ride starts at the Savage River Lodge. Arrive and get settled into your cabin, enjoy dinner* on the deck and watch the wildlife. Depart the next morning for Ohiopyle. We will send you with a packed lunch and souvenir water bottle. You will pedal your way to the Meyersdale Train Station where we will be waiting to bring you back to the Lodge. Pick up a book and rock on the front porch until dinner*. Pack your car and be ready to say goodbye to all of your new Lodge friends in the morning as we head back to the train station (after we drop your vehicle in Cumberland) and pick up on the trail right where you left off the day before. Enjoy the scenery at a leisurely pace and snack on your packed lunch as you coast down the hill and through the tunnel to Cumberland where your journey ends and your trip home begins.

This adventure is designed so you don't have to worry about the planning logistics of food, luggage moving, shuttle service, or moving your car to the end of the trip once you have completed the entire Great Allegheny Passage. Over a 3 day time frame you will bike 50 miles the first day from Boston to Ohiopyle, 40 miles the second day from Ohiopyle to Meyersdale and 30 miles on the last day from Meyersdale to Cumberland. This special package is offered to guests staying at the Savage River Lodge, with shuttling provided to the trail and back to the lodge each night. Bike the Great Allegheny Passage - 16 miles (easy) $25/person
Bring your bikes or make arrangements for rentals and journey along your 16 mile, downhill ride from Frostburg to Cumberland, MD. Along this route you will travel though small trail town’s ride through The Brush Tunnel, one of the smaller tunnels on the trail. Lunch, bike rentals and guides are additional.

Bike the Great Allegheny Passage - 32 miles (moderate) $55/person
Bring your bikes or make arrangements for rentals and journey along your 32 mile, mostly downhill ride from Meyersdale, PA to Cumberland, MD. Along this route you will travel over the Eastern Continental Divide, though small trail towns, and ride through The Big Savage Tunnel, the longest tunnel on the trail at 3,294' long. This shuttle consists of the guest and their car going to Cumberland, being dropped off and then taken to Meyersdale. From there they ride down hill to their own car to travel home at their own pace and leisure. Lunch and guides are additional options you may choose.

Trains, Plains and Automobiles $35.00/person *(our version of Planes, Trains & Automobiles)
This is a perfect way to experience some of what Western Maryland has to offer! Start in Cumberland, MD at the Western Maryland Scenic Railroad and load your bike on the Train and let your journey begin. Train ticket will be provided by Rocky Gap Resort. You will travel, west on the steam powered locomotive, through the Narrows, Helmstetter's Curve (a favorite photos spot for train buffs), through the Brush Tunnel, Woodcock Hollow and end your ride at the historic Frostburg Depot where you and your bike de-board. Spend as much time in town as you like and then peddle across the Plain back to Cumberland at your leisure where your Automobile awaits you.

Don't miss the Autumn Leaves Paradise package, a very popular and scenic package offered during the month of October when the fall foliage in Western Maryland is at its best. This ride will take you through four tunnels, 2 large viaducts, along the river to the highest point on the trail. This route features some of the most beautiful sights along the Great Allegheny Trail so bring your camera and enjoy! This package also includes lodging, breakfasts, packed lunches and shuttles.
